When was the first basketball made?
The first basketball was made in 1891 by Dr. James Naismith. He was a physical education teacher at the YMCA International Training School in Springfield, Massachusetts. Dr. Naismith was looking for a way to keep his students active during the winter months. He came up with the idea of the game of basketball as a way to do this. The original game was played with a soccer ball and two peach baskets. The baskets were nailed to the balcony of the gymnasium where the game was played.
The sport evolved since those first games and a special basketball ball was invented to be used, instead of the soccer ball. Also, the peach baskets were replaced by proper baskets and a normal basketball court, after the game got some traction with the college students of Dr. James Naismith.
